If you love being out in the sun during the dog days of summer like I do, you know you need proper protection. I try to be pretty good about taking extra precautions when outside. I slather my arms, legs and face with sunscreen, but there's another area that needs protection from the sun that I can't cover with sunscreen... my head! I have very thin, fine hair, and my scalp is subject to sunburn because of that. I generally cover my head with my Yankees ball cap (it's pink, of course- and if you're not a Yankees fan, get off this blog! Kidding!), which in my opinion, goes with just about any casual outfit. However, there are times when I'd love to be able to wear a stylish hat while enjoying the outdoors.
This is where Wallaroo Hat Company comes in! Wallaroo was birthed by two wonderful gals who realized the importance of stylish sun protection in the U.S. They came across wonderful crushable fabric hats in Australia, which provided special protection from the sun's UV rays. They began importing small quantities of these hats to the U.S., and then launched Wallaroo Hat Company, which is based in Boulder, CO.
What makes Wallaroo's hats so special? Glad you asked! Most of their hats are UPF 50+, The fabrics used for their hats are tested by the Australian Radiation Protection Agency, and they block 97.5% of the sun's UV rays! How awesome is that?! Throughout the Wallaroo website is the UPF tag, which informs customers which hats will protect against the sun's UV rays. These hats are made from hand-washable fabrics and have adjustable drawstrings. There are hats available for men, women and children and they are made to wear while at work or play! Wallaroo hats are perfect for everyone!
The Wallaroo Scrunchie Hat
I was given the opportunity to review one of Wallaroo's popular hats: Scrunchie in Navy Blue. I chose this hat because it reminded me of a hat I desperately wanted to purchase in the Bahamas a few years back, but there was a big hole in it, so I obviously didn't get it. With my new Scrunchie Hat from Wallaroo, I don't have to worry about it getting a hole in it. The fabric is flexible, durable and I can clean it as needed. This hat is the ideal sun hat. I wish I'd had this when we were at the beach on our vacation earlier this summer! It's fun and flirty, and extremely stylish! I could wear it with a cute sun dress, or (what I've mostly been doing) wear it while working out in the yard, or while Balian and I are out for walks or play time. The wide brim of this hat protects the wearer from the sun, and the best thing about it is that it has a built-in sweatband (which is in a cute paisley design!). I love this hat! I keep it hanging on the inside of my closet door so that it's easily accessible when I am ready to get outside and work or play.
Here I am in my Wallaroo hat- just after having come in from pulling weeds!
I would absolutely recommend Wallaroo Hats to all of my friends and family! Their hats would make a great gift for just about anyone on your gift list. I can't wait to get a hat for Balian when he's big enough to wear a hat from Wallaroo! These hats absolutely get my Mommy Stamp of Approval, because they go above and beyond to protect consumers from the sun's damaging UV rays, and that's something we all need to be mindful of! Than you, Wallaroo, for thinking of us and helping us steer clear of those UV rays- at least atop our heads. Don;t forget to protect yourself from the sun in places where the hats can't help you!
