Summer Fun Activities: Pure and Simple Plaque

Brought to you by Coppertone Water MOMS

Go ahead and get messy!
This is a super fun way to spend some time with your little ones and make some wonderful summertime memories!

You Will Need:

-Plaster of paris
-Aluminum pie dish
-Water
-Nails
-Food coloring (optional)

Directions:

1. Prepare plaster of paris according to the directions.

2. When ready, pour a small amount into a greased aluminum pie dish. Lightly grease your child's hand and then press it gently into the center of the dish. Hold it there for a couple of minutes- until the plaster sets.

3. Remove hand and let plaster set completely. A nail can be inserted while the plaster is still moist so the hand print can be hung on a wall.

4. You can also add food coloring to the plaster mixture at the start of this project. Similar plaques can be made from feet, elbows, knees, etc. Plaster of paris does heat up as it mixes, so adult supervision is absolutely required for this project.

5. Once the mold has cooled, try pressing play dough or molding clay into it to produce a replica of your child's hand.

Remember- stay close to the kids so everyone stays safe!
Have fun and enjoy making memories that will last a lifetime!
