Part of Balian's 2nd Birthday Bash
It's all fine and good for moms and dads (or mostly moms) to choose a nursery theme and design a cute room for their little ones before they're even born. I knew what I wanted Balian's nursery to look like, and we did our best to make that happen. Little did I realize that time would flash before my eyes, and my baby would be a toddler well before I was ready. Balian seemed to develop his own personality super fast, and had no problem letting us know what he liked and disliked. Today is no different, except for the fact that he's now two years old! He's quick to tell me what he likes, and what his favorites are. From an early age, we discovered that he loved The Cat in the Hat, so it's now surprise that he's a beloved pal of Balian's.
We've been toying with the idea of swapping bedroom themes for Balian. His Aunt Britt has already gotten him a Cat in the Hat comforter and pillow set, and I have a feeling that other Cat in the Hat themed items won't be far behind. Since we knew we wanted to give Balian a Cat in the Hat themed party, I wanted to make sure that he had some original party decor that was unique, and just for him!
I found KidUnique on Etsy (it's one of my favorite places to look for unique, handmade gifts and decor), and was quickly drawn in by the collection of hand painted wooden signs I saw in the shop. Courtney Vogel is the owner of KidUnique, and lives in Kansas. She's a stay at home mom to three little boys, and can't remember a time when she wasn't loving crafts! Courtney started to create her own designs and sold them at local craft fairs. In January of 2012, she decided it was time to open up her own Etsy shop and share her designs with the world. I'm so glad she did that- because they truly are wonderful!
Courtney offered to make and send a special Cat in the Hat hand painted room sign, just for Balian. I thought it would make a fantastic personalized decoration for his birthday party, and it would also be a cherished everyday piece of decor for his bedroom.
Cat in the Hat Hand Painted Sign from KidUnique
The Cat in the Hat sign came to us wrapped in bubble wrap, to protect it from being damaged during shipping. Each sign is made of a piece of wood, with two small holes near the top for a ribbon to be threaded through and tied, to make it hang. This particular design is embellished with a wooden cut out of The Cat in the Hat, and is hand painted, and placed on top of the painted piece of wood. Balian's name was also hand painted onto the sign, making it truly his! Each sign is sealed with a clear coat, to give it that professional look!

I love the style of Balian's hand painted name against the blue sign!
We have been enjoying this adorable sign, hanging in Balian's room for a few days, now. I plan to use it at the party as a decoration in my mom and dad's house. It's the perfect little accent to have near the refreshments, by the presents, or to hang on the door! This is definitely one of those items that we will love for a long, long time!
KidUnique offers many designs for the available hand painted signs, and you're bound to find one you'll just love! From signs for boys, girls, teachers and the family, there's something for everyone!
Personally, I happen to like these...
Welcome Sign or Family Name Sign
Count the Sheep Kids Sign
Hot Pink Owl Name or Teacher Sign
Silly Monkey Sign
Obviously, these whimsical signs aren't just for kids- they're bound to be enjoyed by everyone who sees them! Courtney does such an amazing job of creating personalized signs just for her customers, and is happy to work with you on any ideas you may have! These cute signs would make wonderful gifts for newlyweds, new babies, grandparents, or anyone you may happen to love and wish to show your appreciation for!
We cannot wait to show our new Cat in the Hat hand painted sign off to our friends and family at Balian's birthday party! Be sure to tune in after October 20th to catch my birthday bash post, to see how we display the sign at the party!
