Learn & Grow with Melissa & Doug Toys (#Review and $100.00 Shopping Spree Giveaway!)

I had no idea what Melissa and Doug was until the day Cameron was born and his Grandpa Wayne brought home from work (at the national zoo) this HUGE stuffed giraffe and cheetah.  I was amazed they were bigger than me.  I quickly became aware of the awesomeness of Melissa & Doug.

Melissa & Doug has educational toys and accessories for all ages, starting at birth to adolescence.  From chewy teether toys to extravagant train tables.  Melissa & Doug has a toy for every age and every price range.  When I first discovered Melissa & Doug, I thought they made only expensive stuff.  I have since learned that is not true, and all Melissa & Doug items are made with quality in mind.

Melissa & Doug even has a birthday & loyalty club which is super easy to sign up for just enter your email and some other quick info and you're in for giveaways, discounts and other fun stuff.  Melissa & Doug was wonderful enough to send Cameron a few of their products for us to review.  Now with no other Melissa & Doug items besides the giant stuffed animals in the house,  I am now a HUGE Melissa & Doug fan!  Melissa & Doug sent us 4 amazing items,  The M&D Toolbox, a huge wooden puzzle, the M&D Rattle & Rumble Push Toy & a Gears toy!

I have heard a lot of my friends talk about how much their children love this Melissa and Doug Toolbox set, but let me tell you it really is wonderful.  Each of the pieces is so realistic looking, soft but sturdy and so interactive.  The drill has a cord to pull to make it vibrate like a real drill, the hammer has a harder head to “hammer” with.  The saw is a stiffer material so it actually looks like a saw, but I think my favorite part is the screws.  There is a screwdriver, 2 screws and 2 screw blocks.  You can actually screw the screws into the blocks.  Cameron loves to put all the stuff into the Melissa and Doug Tool box and carry it around.  The yellow ruler handle is also interactive.  It velcros on one side so it can partially come off and be used as a measuring tool for pretend building with the rest of the set!

Cameron is in love with figuring out how things work, putting them together and taking them back apart.  I'm sure most moms and dads feel the same, but it is so amazing to sit and watch his little mind go.  It just amazes me to watch him figure things out so quickly.  The Melissa & Doug Vehicle Gears Board allows him to do just that.  “Each interlocking segment moves the next for hands-on fun and terrific motor-skills practice. With their bulky, notched shape, the colorful gear toys are easy for children to fit onto the color-coordinated pegs then rotate, remove and rearrange on this wooden toddler toy.” (taken from the Melissa and Doug website)  The gear pieces are a nice size, not too big not too small,  if I had to guess I would say about the size of a York Peppermint Patty.  They are light and easy to handle.  The are easy to move on the board and provide endless hours of educational fun for you and your little one.

We have really started trying to teach Cameron colors & shapes now that he is 1 year old.  The Melissa & Doug Large Shapes Jumbo Knob Puzzle has played a huge part in that.  Cameron loves to run around with the different shapes throughout the day so it gives me multiple opportunities to point out to him the color and the shape, and then a few times a day I take the puzzle board out and sit with him and we figure out where each piece goes.  I can’t wait for the day when he can do it all on his own.  Right now as with most 1 year olds,he just slides the pieces around by the knob until it fits into a spot.  If it’s the right spot I clap and cheer and tell him what shape/color it is.

The last item we were sent from Melissa & Doug was the Rattle Rumble Push Toy.  Now here I was thinking this was just another walker.  Let me tell you, it is worth every penny they sell it for.  “This sturdy push toy rattles and rumbles along with a toddler's early steps! Colorful toys tumble around in three clear canisters as this wooden toy moves forward or backward. It's a toddler classic that will have beginning walkers on a roll” (taken from the Melissa & Doug website).  Cameron not only loves to push his Melissa & Doug was the Rattle Rumble Push Toy, but he also like to sit in front of it on the floor and look at all the colors and shapes in side of it, and he likes to do the boy thing and climb on it.

The Melissa & Doug was the Rattle Rumble Push Toy is sturdy and the height is adjustable.  Cameron loves to push his Melissa & Doug Rattle Rumble Push Toy up and down our long hallway and stop halfway through and play with the tubes on the front.
