My 2 & 1/2 year-old loves to read. We have been collecting books for him since before he oficially made his way into this world. Reading is such an important part of our day, and giving my son the right tools for education is a priority to my husband and me.
Mommy's Block Party is proud to partner with Tidy Books, a company based in the UK, which specializes in providing families with cozy homes for books. The very first Tidy Books bookcase was created by Tidy Books Founder, Geraldine Grandidier, who created a bookshelf for her own daughter. Tidy Books offers original, uniquely designed furniture that are just for kids. Allowing them to have their own book storage areas teaches them a sense of independence, as well as responsibility.
You may remember that MBP Jr. Contributor Erin Brown reviewed the Kids Bookcase with her son Cameron, a few months ago. This month, I am very excited to have a turn to work with the Tidy Books team for a review of their wonderful Tidy Books Box!
Our Books Box arrived nicely packaged (all the way from the UK!) in this self-carry box with handle.
I love the photo on the box that our product arrived in! I hoped that my son would also fall in love with this new book box and head to it again and again to pick out his own books for our reading time together.
The Tidy Books Box was bubble-wrapped for protection...
There were several wooden pieces to the Tidy Books Box, which my husband laid out on the table, as he reached for the directions. We selected the books box in the natural/birch wood color, because it would best match the furniture in Balian's bedroom. All of the hardware needed to put the box together, was included, as well as detailed instructions and the latest Tidy Books catalog.
My husband Sacha, checking out the screws for the Books Box...
Wooden pieces with grooves and pre-drilled holes for easy assembly.
All of the wooden pieces to the Tidy Books Box were well-sanded around the edges. I am always a put nervous about anything wooden that we have to assemble at home, because little hands love to explore, and nothing is worse than those little hands getting a great big splinter. Tidy Books obviously takes great care to ensure that these pieces are safe as can be.
Sacha, begining to assemble the box...
As my husband began to put the book box together and it started to take shape, I began to realize just how large the Tidy Books Box really is! It's not just a little book caddy. This truly is a box for books, and can generously hold and store up to 40 children's books!
Balian, very excited about the clock face of the book box!
The Tidy Books Box also features a wooden clock, which attaches to the outside of the box. Balian has been intrigued by clocks, ever since we added a clock night light to his bedroom. This will be a wonderful tool for me, as I begin to teach him how to tell time. For right now, Balian enjoys moving the long arm on the clock around to touch all of his favorite numbers!
Getting there... the box is taking shape!
Standing on its end, this is one great big book box!
'Easy as pie,' my handy hubby said, as he put this together.
Adding the clock, which made Balian very excited and eager to have his box down on the floor!
After what seemed like an eternity to our son (which was actually more like twenty-five minutes), the assembly of the Tidy Books Box was complete, and my husband placed in on the living room floor for Balian to check out. Again, I was amazed at the size of the box, and wondered where in the world I would put it, since we are really starting to run out of extra floor space in our house.
Beautiful wooden book storage box with handle for serious storage and mobility!
The Tidy Books Box features four pockets, two on each side of the box. The back pockets are deeper, which are perfect for storing tall books (we have a lot of those!), and the front pockets a bit more shallow, for regular sized books. I couldn't wait to see how many books we could actually fit into the book box!
Excited little boy, ready to help his books make the big move!
Balian's books were sort of scattered about the house before the Tidy Books Box came into our lives. Some if his books were on shelves in his bedroom, some were on shelves in our living rooom, and some were even on the shelf in my bedroom! I love for Balian to have easy access to his favorite books, but they were seriously starting to take over the house! Balian wasted no time transferring the books from one of the living room shelves to his new book box. He had so much fun with this big boy task!
A tiny sampling of the first books to grace the pockets of our new Tidy Books Box!
After adding a few books, the box became a bit heavy, so my hubby carried the box into Balian's room, and left me with the task of transferring the rest of B's books from his bookshelf to the new box. I was able to fit two shelves worth of books into the book box, from the bookcase in Balian's bedroom, in addition to the shelf-full that we removed from the living room bookshelf.
I was really amazed by how many books the book box could hold, and was even happier that by moving the books, we freed up some much needed shelf-space for games and toys in Balian's room.
We did wind up with about 30 books in our book box. Since so many of B's books are thick, board books, they take up a bit more space.
We even found the perfect space for the Tidy Books Box!
I wound up placing the Tidy Books Box in a small space between Balian's bookshelf and his little dresser. Balian can easily reach all of his favorite books by himself, now. Before, his books were so high up on the shelf, that he couldn't get to them without having a little help. Now, he can grab a book, and often does. I have recently walked into B's room and found him reading on the rug, in his play tent, in his bed, and at his play table. I've even been invited to come into his room for tea time and have a story read to me!
We are so impressed with the Tidy Books Book Box, and so are our friends and family members. My mother-in-law, who is a librarian, thinks this is the neatest thing in the world! Every family ought to have one of these tidy little book boxes for their little ones!
