Part of MBP's Summer Splash
It's been hot, hot, hot here in North Carolina, and I'd venture to guess that it's been hot wherever you are, too! Aside from it being quite warm, it's also been very rainy, so we've been making the most of the few sunny days we've had so far this summer. One of our favorite outdoor activities for the backyard, is playing in water, which can be a lot of fun, and quite refreshing on a hot and muggy day.
Balian has had lots of experience playing in and with water in kiddie pools, but this summer, I knew we'd want to introduce something new that might provide a bit more entertainment and perhaps, exercise, as well. We were fortunate enough to be able to work with HearthSong, one of our favorite places to find unique toys and activities for kids. HearthSong has been comitted to connecting moms and dads with wholesome, quality playthings for their children since 1983 (that's the year I was born!). HearthSong was founded by Barbara Kane, and shipped the very first HearthSong catalogs, which were printed in black and white, and included pencil drawings of select toys, from her very own home. Twenty-five years later, HearthSong still embraces its name, celebrating the Hearth as the center of the home, and the Song, which embodies a family's spirit. HearthSong believes that children ought to be occupied with the joy of creative play and just being kids, and they offer quite a unique selection of acitivites, toys, decor and more!
HearthSong Inflatable Water Slide
At MBP, we've worked with Magic Cabin, a sister brand of HearthSong. You can catch my reviews of their GardenFort and Reuben's Barn Kids Dolls. We received another opportunity to work with HearthSong this summer, and I was very excited to see their exclusive HearthSong Inflatable Water Slide for Kids. I knew that it would be a lot of fun for Balian to play in, especially when his cousin Connor comes to visit. This super slide has a 12 foot pathway, and a large splash pool at the end of it. Summer fun, indeed!
Here's the water slide in our yard- still a bit folded up. We were eager to get it set up for Balian!
Sacha, unfolding the length of the water slide...
Once we got the water slide unfolded, my husband used an electric air pump (we already own one, but if you don't have one, you can purchase one seperately through HearthSong) to inflate each section of the water slide: the edges, and the pathway. It did take a bit of time for the water slide to fully inflate, maybe about fifteen or twenty minutes, which was probably due to its first use and the performance of our pump.
Starting to inflate with the electric air pump...
Almost there! There was a little bit more to go with the inflation when I snapped this photo...
After the water slide was fully inflated, we added some water to the splash pool area. After that, we attached the hose to the water slide, and turned the water back on. The left side of the water slid features a ton of little holes, for an added bonus sprinkler! This helps to keep the pathway wet for sliding, and provides extra fun for all!
Looks inviting, doesn't it?
Balian couldn't wait to give the water slide from HearthSong a try. Since this was totally new to him, I did have to coax him into the splash pool, first. He plopped right down in it, and splashed and played away. I tossed a little ball into the pool and he chased that around for a good while, too. Eventually, he became intrigued by the water sprinkling onto the pathway from the side of the water slide. He carefully made his way down the path, and when he got to the end, he turned around, ran, and jumped into the splash pool.
Full view of the HearthSong Inflatable Water Slide, all set up in our yard, and being fully enjoyed on a sunny afternoon at home!
My favorite feature of the water slide- the built-in sprinkler!
Once Balian got comfortable with the water slide, he spent all afternoon sliding on his belly, scooting on his bottom, and running around, running his hands through the sprinkler. When he was tired of using the slide part, he went and plopped into the splash pool again, and splashed his little heart out! I enjoyed watching him have so much fun, and my husband was jealous, saying that he wished there was one of these for adults!
'Get back here, ball- or I'm coming after you!'
Fun in the sprinkler...
Splash time!
Now, the water slide is not meant for running back and forth on, or even walking on, and it does have a weight limit. Balian will love playing with this more and more, as he gets used to sliding on his belly, and turning his head from the water.
