One of the things that I usually dread about the changing seasons, is that I have to do some new shoe scouting and shopping for my son. If you've ever gone shoe shopping with little ones, you know as well as I do, that it can be a miserable experience for all involved, if the trip isn''t planned and executed perfectly. It's hard to buy shoes online for my son, too, because he has a thick foot from top too bottom. I never know if a shoe will fit his foot comfortably, unless it looks like it has a lot of room. I usually wind up going with the brands I know work for the size of B's feet and stick with them, but every now and then, we become brave and try something new.

We were recently offered the opportunity to work with Yochi Yochi shoes, a company offering the latest trends in Japan here in the US. Yochi Yochi offers durable, comfortable shoes for toddlers that have fun designs, and a little surprise! Yochi Yochi shoes squeak (slightly) when your child takes a step. This feature is both fun and practical. When your child hears the squeak, they are able to recognize and learn the rhythm of footsteps, which may help them in their walk-training. It's also a great way for parents to know that their kiddos are nearby- squeak, squeak!
We were offered a pair of Yochi Yochi shoes of our choice to review, and I was excited to take a look to see which style might suit Balian. After I selected the style I wanted and the correct size, our order was placed and our Yochi Yochi shoes were on their way to our house!
Our Yochi Yochi Shoes...
The shoes I ordered for B arrived in a postal package, and when I opened it up, I found a drawstring bag with the Yochi Yochi logo on it, which contained his new shoes.
B's new Yochi Yochi Shoes!
I chose the Captain Zuga Yochi Yochi Shoes for Balian, because he loves pirates! Captain Zuga is a former outlaw of the high seas, who turned away from the pirate lifestyle for a new, comfy career in kids footwear. I had to chuckle at his description. What little boy wouldn't love a pair of pirate sneakers? The shoes are made from a comfortable nylon, which allow lots of room to expand and comfortably fit your child. They are also rubber soled with a Velcro closure, making these super easy for getting on and taking off. The heel containes a squeaker, and releases a small squeak when the child walks. This is a safety feature more than anything- it's designed to help parents keep a closer watch on their children, especially when in public places.
The back of the shoes also show off Captain Zuga!
Balian couldn't wait to try his new Yochi Yochi shoes on. As soon as we removed them from the drawstring bag, he asked if they were his new pirate shoes? He was pretty spot on with that. His daddy helped him put the shoes on, and he ran through the house with his foam pirate sword, yelling, 'Arg! Yo ho!' Kids, huh? These shoes are super comfortable for Balian to walk around in. They support his little feet, and they fit perfectly! They are the easiest shoes we now own to get on, and for him to take off by himself.
Captain Zuga, making his big debut on Balian's feet!
B was very excited to wear this new Yochi Yochi shoes to Grammy and Papa's house, and then to Ampa and Papa Willi's house to show off to everyone in our family. Of course, all of the adults thought that I was out of my mind for getting B shoes with squeakers, but as a parent, I recognize the safety concern, and find that they aren't as annoying as one might think. I like knowing that my son is near me. I think these are the perfect shoes to let him wear to the playground, when he wants a little independence so he can play without mommy being on top of him every two seconds.
Yochi Yochi has some pretty cute other designs, too...
