After a very long, grey, rainy and cold week, I am so happy to see the sun! Mother nature has been up to her dirty tricks again, teasing us with warm and sunny weather one day, and then dumping freezing rain on us the next! Today and tomorrow, we'll be in the 60's and 70's, and thank goodness, because I am so ready to retire my rain boot and winter coat! Spring is oficially here, and I have never been this ready for its arrival! My feet have been pampered, my toes are polished, and I am ready for sandals season! I love my boots and all, but I hate for my feet to be confined, which means that I have been on the hunt for some snazzy new sandals for spring and summer!
I recently found Keikei's Coconut Sandals, which are (you guessed it) sandals made from real coconuts! These are probably the most unique sandals I have ever seen, and I just had to find out how on earth a coconut winds up on a pair of sandals. I connected with Ryan David, owner of Keikei's Coconut Sandals, who explakined that he and co-founder Meg came across the idea of coconut sandals while on a trip to the Phillipenes several years ago. The sandals they saw were pretty raw, but they saw the potential in the idea. After lots of prototypes, they were able to find the perfect balance of style, beauty, and comfort in a sandal that featured real coconut shells. Keikei's was introduced to the public in January of 2012, and are now being sold around the globe!
I was so intigued by these unique sandals, that Ryan offered to send me a pair. I couldn't wait to see what it felt like to have real coconuts against my feet, on a sandal! There were a lof of different styles and designs to choose from, but I decided to go with the the Original Coconut Sandals in turquoise.
My Keikei's sandals have arrived! How colorful!
My sandals were packaged in plastic, to keep them well protected during their trip to my house. I noticed the beautiful turquoise color right off, and couldn't wait to take a closer look at them!
Gorgeous- just look at all of the beaded and coconut shell pieces on each and every strand!
These sandals are extremely lightweight, featuring a rubber soled footbed, making them comforable for casual wear. They grip the ground well, so you don't have to worry about slipping or sliding out of them, which is a huge plus, in my book. I always have concerns about slipping and falling in sandals and flip flops.
Comfortable thong, and beautiful beaded details...
Each sandal has five strands of beadwork and coconut shell pieces, making up each strap. At first, I wondred if these would be comfortable, or bothersome? A lot of people have trouble wearing something between their toes, and these sandals have a lot of tiny embellishments that may press into the skin.
Great fit!
I was pleased to discover that the sandals fit me very well. They weren't too tight, so nothing pressed into or made dents in my skin. They weren't loose, either, so I knew I wouldn't have to worry about them flopping around or falling off, or making too much of a snapping or clunking sound as I walked (because that's just annoying to me).
They look great with jeans, capris, and shorts...
...but look even better when worn like this!
The feeling of the tiny coconut shell pieces is very interesting. They're very soft, almost milky-like, against the skin. After wearing them for several hours, I actually felt like the skin over the tops of my feet were conditioned. They felt silky and soft! I felt pretty special when wearing my Keikei's sandals out and about. They're unlike any other sandals I have ever seen in any of my favorite retail stores, making them one of a kind! I don't mind when people linger with their looks, either- they're just checking out these gorgeous sandals, and mustering up the courage to ask where I got them from.
Look at how beautifully these sandals by Keikei's accent the feet- it's like they have their own special outfit on, or something.
The way my feet felt dressed up in my new Keikei's Coconut Sandals, made me feel like a million bucks! I felt like I had dainty little stars dancing over my feet. I can't wait to wear these all spring, and certainly all summer long, as they're pretty much the perfect design and color to go with just about anything! I chose the turquoise, because I can easily wear that color with black, white, coral or pink, yellow, neutrals, etc.
Keikei's Coconut Sandals has so many beautiful designs, and I'd love to add some of these other ones to my sandal collection...
Coconut Heishi
Coconut Loop
Coconut Pukalit
Capiz
The Original Coconut Sandal is my favorite design, though- it's simple and perfect to casual daytime wear to walks on the beach, or dinner out with family. These sandals are available in 12 colors and range in size from 5.5 to 10.5 in XS, S, M, L, and retail for $32.00.
Keikei's are the perfect springtime and summer sandal to add to your collection! People everywhere will be asking where you found such a beautiful, unique sandal, and wait until you tell them that it has real coconut shells on it! These would make a beautiful gift for anyone who loves sandals. Heads up- Mother's Day isn't that far off! Doing some summer traveling? Hitting the beach sometime soon? These sandals are simply a must- and they're worth having!
