Holiday Gift Guide 2014: Travel Across the USA with Little Passports {Review and Giveaway}

Two years ago we were introduced to a fabulous company that helps kids "travel" all over the world. We formed an amazing relationship with this company that lead to a full year of exploration for my kids. They got to experience and learn all about different countries and hear of really neat adventures from two kids named Sam and Sofia. This company, Little Passports, is a monthly subscription service that takes kids on a global adventure.
Little Passports, based in San Francisco, is a Mom-founded company looking to inspire and teach kids about the world around them, in a fun and unique way. These moms were looking at ways to have all kids take an active interest in the countries of the world, including their own. By blending two concepts-technology/online games and getting actual mail, Little Passports offers travel adventures that include letters, souvenirs, activities, photos, and online games straight to your mailbox each month. These packages are filled with specific items to encourage their explorations. Check out some great clips and reviews of Little Passports here.

Little Passports has THREE main adventures. This has changed since we last visited with them, when they only carried two adventures. The first product they offer is "World Edition Explorer Kit", this is what we reviewed in our 2012 Holiday Gift Guide review, to see that, click here. The second product they offer is the "USA Edition", which we will be reviewing below. The third product is their newest, "Early Explorers".

Geared for ages 5-10, this exploration begins with Kit One, where you will receive an introduction to Sam and Sofia (Sam and Sofia are the two traveling characters within Little Passports), a suitcase filled with a world wall map, a travel passport, stickers, an activity sheet, and access to online games and activities with a boarding pass. Each month, a new country will be featured and you will receive a letter from Sam and Sofia, a souvenir, activity sheets, photos, stickers for your suitcase, passport, and map, and your boarding pass to online games. Here all of the places we traveled with Sam and Sofia--January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, and November. To choose a subscription for the World Edition Explorer Kit, you have 3 options: 12 Month-$10.95/month ($131.40 +$25 shipping total), 6 Month-$13.95/month ($83.70 +$15 shipping total), or Monthly-$11.95/month + $3 shipping. We once again worked with Sara, who has been a great partner and friend to MBP. She was thrilled to work with us again, as was I. I couldn't wait to see the kids reaction when they found out they would get to travel with Sam and Sofia again.

Our Little Passports package is here!
Each box comes clearly labeled with the company logo and is addressed to the kids, which they LOVE!
Since B can read, he knew what was in store right away, both kids were so excited, they couldn't wait to get in the box and see what they could find.
So cool--United States stuff!
Our first find was a neat folder with our traveling pals Sam and Sofia right on the front and back. This folder has a small snap right on the front to keep all the goodies safe inside. The kids were  really excited about the bright colors and all the US stuff decorating it.

We found a pile of goodies in our package!
Each introductory kit has the following items:
  • A welcome letter from new pen pals Sam & Sofia
  • USA Field Guide
  • USA Scratch Book
  • Wall-sized USA Map
  • Disposable Camera and Photo Scavenger Hunt Project
The first item we found was our letter from Sam and Sofia. We were familiar with them from our World Travels and knew we could count on them to introduce us to some amazing things across the US. This letter basically told us what we could expect each coming month-2 new states with an activity-packed State Journal, Stickers, postcards, Pop-Out Models, and online activities.
The next item is the US Field Guide. This book was a huge hit with both kids.
Inside their is a "My Profile" section where you can personalize the Field Guide for you. We took time going over all the states they have visited in real life, my kids have a pretty good list going so far.
There is also a section for each state that includes highlights with stickers of state animal, seal, bird, flower, and flag. The kids could not wait to start planning who was going to be filling them in. On the second page of each state were questions to be answered once we had explored it with Sam and Sofia. I think this is such a great feature, they really have to listen and pay attention to get all the fun details about each state.
Another part of the field guide had general questions about the US and all of its features.
We found Indiana in the States and Capitals section!
The Field Guide is such a cool tool that is included in the introductory kit. I can not wait to start filling it up with stickers and facts while the kids (and myself) learn about all the US states.

The next item we found was the USA Scratch Book, which my little artist S, was dying to get her hands on. We have seen and used books like this before, so we knew how they worked and boy did they get right to work.
Each page has states and fun activities on it.
B working hard
S loving her scratchings
The next item was a favorite of the World Edition, the full sized map!
This map is bright and colorful and full of fun photos that pertain to certain states or area of the country. If the map works like last time, the kids will get to find each new place on the map and mark it with a pin. They love working together to find them.
The last item from our introduction was a disposable camera and photo scavenger hunt challenge. Both kids started snapping away and finding things on the list. It did not take them long and they love, love, loved it.

I have so much love for Little Passports, both as a company and what they offer my kids. My older two really come together when we get our package each month and take turns exploring and working with each other. They both seem to really enjoy and look forward to the envelope in our mailbox and ask immediately to open it. The company seems to love their customers and we appreciate them! I can't wait to see where our Sam and Sofia travels will take us with the US Edition!
