We have been blessed with a daughter who absolutely loves going to school, which kind of makes me a little nervous about when Reese is old enough to go, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Drew never attended preschool, but when it was time for kindergarten, she immediately felt comfortable in the school environment. Matt and I were a little nervous how she would react moving to a new school for first grade, but she was still excited and just went right on with the flow. Even this year, for second grade, when she started at one school and moved to a local magnet school after a month, she did not show one sign of not wanting to go to school.

I know that not all children are like Drew, and can get kind of nervous about school. Whether it's starting school at the beginning of the year, or even starting back after a long break (like the upcoming winter break); going to school can be a nerve wracking time; just ask Princess Cupcake Jones!



Princess Cupcake Jones is a sweet, and sassy at times, young lady who is getting ready (sort of) for her first day of kindergarten in the book Princess Cupcake Jones Won't Go to School! The story starts off with Cupcake telling her mother that she "won't go to school". Through the rhyming verses of the story, we see Cupcake doing anything she can think of to avoid school, including the ever popular faking sick, We later find out that Cupcake is scared that she might not like her school, that no one will like her, or that her tutu will not be cool. Her mother, the Queen, assures her not to let her fears keep her from trying something new, and Cupcake ends up giving school a try!



I felt that this story is so on point with the mind of a young child. I think it would be the perfect story for parents to read with their young children before they start (or return to) school. We really enjoyed how the author, Ylleya Fields, made the story flow with the rhyming verses and how illustrator Michael LaDuca used the beautiful pictures to help the story come to life. We also really liked searching for the hidden word "Love" in all of the illustrations.
