With six more weeks of winter before us, I am living up winter fashion as much as possible. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to spring, and bright colors, but I love fall and winter, and will be super sad when it's time to put the boots away! I can't even tell you how much I adore the popular fashion styles that have been popping up. Fashion/style is absolutely a personal thing, and something I care a lot about. A few years ago, I was in a fashion funk. I was a new mom, and suddenly felt like I had no idea how to dress myself anymore. I still had a desire to be fashionable, but now there was a little person who really needed me, and I quickly realized that I needed my clothing to be stylish, but comfortable- sassy, yet modest. 

Mom or not, I think all women in their late twenties/early thirties go through a sort of style crisis. We're no longer teens or college-age chicks, and want to be fashionable without trying to wear what the teens are wearing. One of the things that I love about boutique style, is that it offers modest, trendy styles that don't really cater to a certain age group- it's multi-generational fashion for mothers, daughters, sisters, and even grandmothers. Ladies can wear trendy clothing that is age appropriate, classy, cute, and has everyone else asking, 'Where did she get that!?'

I recently had the pleasure of connecting with Just Plain Fancy Boutique, and its owner, Annie Reed Kinser. Just Plain Fancy Boutique is located Stanton, Kentucky. Annie has an extensive background in fashion merchandising and design, and is a graduate of SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). Annie has always had a passion for personal style, and after wrestling with the decision to pursue it as a career, took a big leap of faith, and opened her own boutique in Stanton. Annie's personal story is incredibly inspiring, and I encourage you to get to know Annie a little better by checking out the Our Story section over at Just Plain Fancy's website.

I really felt very blessed to connect with Annie, and learn more about her boutique. After several e-mails send back and forth, it was clear to me that Annie and I have many of the same values, and I knew I would feel proud to wear the clothing she hand picks for her boutique, and to endorse Just Plain Fancy. Annie allowed me to send over a few suggestions of pieces of boutique clothing from Just Plain Fancy, that I would be interested in featuring on MBP. Of course, I loved everything I saw. I know I say that a lot when it comes to our fashion reviews, but there wasn't a single item listed that I wouldn't have wanted to wear! After Annie and I worked out the items to be featured, they were on their way to my house, and I anxiously awaited their arrival.

My apparel from Just Plain Fancy arrived, and I laid it out to take a closer look.

I knew what the pieces I chose where going to look like, but was so incredibly surprised by how bold and bright the colors were! Who said winter style has to be bland and boring? As you can see from the photo above, I selected two styles with bold prints. This was a bold decision for me. I love to wear black, and dark colors, so these selections were a much needed change of pace for me. I've never worn animal print before in my life, but when I saw that print, it immediately called to me. The other print was just too adorable and fun to pass up! I also received a pair of Fleece Lined Leggings, which I was incredibly thankful for. Spring may be around the corner, but it's still in the 20's in the morning, here in NC! Chilly!

First up, the fun and sassy Just Like Animals Dress

There was something so wild and fun about this dress, that I just couldn't resist it! The print is unlike anything I've ever dared to wear before, but I heard it calling out to me, and couldn't wait to wear it! It's loosely fitted, light and stretchy. It has a tie waist, and the cutest bell-sleeves! The length is appropriate, and the overall style while 'wild,' is still classy and modest... perfect for the gal who wants to show her wild side.

How I wore the Just Like Animals Dress from Just Plain Fancy Boutique:

Dress paired with black leggings, and brown boots. I also added a deep plum colored wrap bracelet with rose gold charms for a pop of color and sparkle.

My hubby thought this dress was cute, and was proud of me for stepping a bit out of my comfort zone as far as the print was concerned. I wore this dress to church two Sundays ago, and just loved the way it moved with me. If you're a regular reader, you probably already know that I lead worship on Sundays mornings for my church's contemporary service. I move around a lot, and aim to be as comfortable as possible. I felt free to move, as needed, was able to comfortably wear this dress, and tend to my son, and really hated to take it off after lunch. I received a ton of compliments on this dress- everyone loved the print, and the bell sleeves! I can't wait to wear this dress again- you could say I'm wild about it!

I loved rockin' the Just Like Animals dress with leggings and boots! I can't wait to wear it again, and style it differently for spring!

For me, this tunic is a great transition piece from winter into spring. It sort of hints that spring is near. I was drawn to this style for a number of reasons- the print is whimsical and fun, I love the colors, and this tunic is versatile, because it can be worn as a tunic, or as a top. I'm cool with wearing a tunic with leggings, as long as my rear is covered. Call me old fashioned, or modest mom, but I want the pieces I wear to reflect the respect I hold not only for myself, but my husband, as well. When I put this item on, I did the booty check, and received my hubby's approval, as well.

I wore the Ever Wonder Tunic from Just Plain Fancy Boutique with the pair of brown fleece lined leggings that were also sent to me, and my brown boots, as well as a brown wrap bracelet.

I felt so cute and comfy in this tunic, you guys! The style is so fun to wear, and like the Just Like Animals dress, I was able to freely move around in this tunic. This is obviously shorter, as it is a tunic, and not a dress. I felt comfortable wearing this to worship, and the length was never an issue. Everyone, and I do mean everyone was asking me where I got this tunic. Several ladies made comments like this one, 'It looks like you got that from someplace downtown... that's definitely boutique style.'  I shared that I received the tunic from Just Plain Fancy, and of course, shared that we'd be featuring this style on MBP. I always enjoy sharing about where my clothing comes from!

Too cute style for everyday, or a fun night out!

What I love about this style, is that it is perfect for me, in my early 30's, but I could totally see my cousins (in their teens) in this tunic, my sister (in her late 20's) and could see my mom (in her 50's) in this same tunic. Sure, we would probably each style this a different way, but that's the beauty of it! It's not often that you come across a boutique that three or four generations of women would feel comfortable shopping at together.

 

Fleece Lined Leggings

The fleece lined leggings that I received are so comfortable! I have worn them with many other pieces of clothing I already own, and have found myself not wanting to take them off at the end of the day! I mean, I'm not going to sleep in them or anything, but I totally could- that's how amazingly soft, comfy and warm they are! These leggings have a nice stretch to them. They keep a nice shape, they're not too tight or too loose, and if you didn't catch it the first couple of times I mentioned it, they are so nice and warm! These are perfect for chilly mornings and evenings! As we make the transition to spring, these are awesome to have on hand. In the south, we have to dress in layers during the spring and fall seasons, so these are a staple!
