Summer reading is in full swing and my kids are constantly looking for new books to read. We hit the library once a week for summer reading check-in, library programs, and checking out new books. We love finding new and interesting reads to keep us entertained.
We recently were contacted by a brand new children's author, who had just had her first children's book published. What a better way to get your name out there then contacting other parents and having them spread the word. We are so glad we were chosen to help this new author on her way!
Monica L. Hughes has been an educator for over ten years and currently teaches Kindergarten in Texas. She is also a wife and mother to three, so adding children's author to her plate makes her one busy lady. Magnet Max is the first children's book by author Monica L. Hughes.
Magnet Max is about a boy named Max who likes to explore and experiment with magnets. Max wants to see what magnets attract and explores along with his pal Nick. They search and find what has special forces and what does not.
Monica has used her educational experience to help "teach" scientific concepts in a clear and easy to follow way. She uses rhyming and familiar ideas to keep the readers attention and help them understand while having fun. Illustrator, Holly Weinstein, helps with colorful and bright pictures that bring the story to life.
Our package from Monica L. Hughes is here!

B loved reading Magnet Max, he even read it to his sisters right away. We all love the rhyming rhythm that the story has. S loves the page Nick exclaimed, "Goodness sakes! I'm amazed at the magic it makes! Can we get it to stick to a horse?" The illustrations are colorful and bright, and fit right along with the words in the story, so even by just looking at the pictures, the younger kids know what is going on and bring the characters to life.
I am thrilled that this book is a current favorite in our house and is chosen over and over by all three kids. It teaches them simple science terms and experiments while being fun and engaging. Monica has done a great job with this book and we can't wait to see what else she writes in the future.
