We're finally experiencing a bit of a cool-down here in NC. I am jumping for joy at the fact that we've had temps as low as 47 degrees in the mornings. It may mean that we have to wear jackets until mid-day, but we welcome the change! We recently ditched our cable service, so we have had to find alternate ways of receiving information when it comes to the local weather forecasts. I am sort of a weather junkie- I have been one since I was a kid. I love to watch the weather segments on the news, and always want to be up to date on the current weather conditions in our area.
We have found it hard to rely on the weather reports we receive from our phones- the temperature is almost always several degrees off, and we can't trust the reports. With a little one heading off to school every morning, I want to be prepared for whatever type of weather we may encounter during the day.
Our family was recently given the opportunity to try out the AcuRite All Weather Environment System, and it has truly made a difference in the way we receive accurate, up to the second weather reports- from our own back yard! AcuRite is owned by Chaney Instrument Co., a leader in manufacturing of precision time, temperature and weather products since 1943. AcuRite is the #1 top selling brand in weather products. Their easy to understand and use tools make it easier than ever to receive up to the minute local weather reports, and to plan your day accordingly.
Weather Environment System with PC Connect, Wind and Rain
We were so excited to receive this system from AcuRite! My husband had just previous helped his friend install one of these systems at his house, and seemed to be very impressed by its ease of use, and performance. The system includes several pieces, including:
AcuLink Internet Bridge
Color Display with PC Connect for 5-in-1 Sensor
5-in-1 PRO Weather Sensor
*AcuRite Connect for Windows
*AcuRite Online & AcuLink App
At first, it seemed overwhelming to see so many pieces out on our dining table. I am lucky to have a hubby who is a whiz when it comes to following instructions, and installing a system such as this. It wasn't daunting at all, actually. He was already semi-experienced with this, since he had helped his friend, so he pretty much knew what he needed to do.
The first step would be to figure out how to mount the Pro Weather Sensor in the back yard. We couldn't attach it to our house, but figured if we could find a way to attach it to the fence around our yard, that would be perfect. So, hubby took off to Lowe's to find the piece of material he needed to make this happen, and upon his return, he had the sensor installed within just a few minutes. The sensor needed to be several feet up off of the ground, in order to accurately pick up wind speeds and correct measurements.
Hubby attached this piece of material to our back fence, which made it a great height for the sensor!
The sensor now sits behind our house, and measures everything from wind speed and temperature to humidity and rain!
The sensor has built in solar panels, which allow accurate readings. The sensor updates every few seconds, so your weather reading are always up to date! The sensor can be places up to 100 meters from your home.
Features of the Weather Pro Sensor
Measures temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction and rain
Two solar panels power the internal fan to maximize ambient temperature accuracy
Strong wireless range up to 330 feet (100 meters)
Transmits data every 18 to 36 seconds
Automatic self-emptying rain collection cup
2 year battery life
Durable, all-weather construction
Easy installation includes mounting hardware
The Sensor Display gives us a gorgeous display of up to date weather info in our home!
After we installed the sensor, setting up the display was super easy. All we had to do was plug it in, and voila- we had an almost instant reading. You can leave the display on, or turn it on/off as needed. I love the lighting- it provides a vibrant, colorful display. The display is thin, and takes up very little space, so it's great for small corners of the home, the kitchen counter, etc. I would suggest placing wherever you spend the majority of your time spent at home.
The display is wonderful! It gives us the current date and time, temperature in our own yard, humidity, chance of rain, etc. We can also set weather/storm alarms, which is awesome, because I tend to worry about feeling safe going to bed when we're in a bad storm or tornado watch. If you live in an area which receives bad weather on a regular basis, I would highly recommend this system!
