Part of the MBP Maternity & Newborn Guide
We're gearing up for baby at our house, and we couldn't be more excited. I'm definitely in the nesting mode, and tearing through the entire house, trying to get everything ready. Baby S' nursery is coming together, and I am so excited to be filling up her dresser with adorable baby clothing, and accessories.
One of the things that I am sort of lost about when it comes to babies, are shoes. B hated wearing shoes or socks when he was a baby, so we didn't bother much with them, unless we really needed to. Once he started crawling and walking, it was a different story. I know that we'll be out and about with S a lot more than we were with B when he was just a few weeks old. Our involvement card is pretty full, and as it happens, I just added to my plate!
Having safe, comfy and reliable shoes for babies and toddlers is a must, but with so many options out there, it can be difficult to find the best brands available. Rileyroos was inspired by love and the line born in 2006. Founders Kim & Brian dreamt up the idea for Rileyroos after the birth of their daughter, Riley. The two saw a need for developmentally friendly shoe choices for little feet. The line was developed with a focus on style, comfort and ease, which they think is most important for little growing feet.
Rileyroos design inspiration comes from a combination of European fashion trends and American spirit and casualness.
They designed the line to imitate barefoot walking and to protect little feet. The sole of a Rileyroos shoe is flexible and its rubber-padded sole curls above the toes to provide leverage as a child begins crawling. Unlike many heavy or bulky first walking shoes, Rileyroos’ lightweight construction and protective bottoms support a child’s foot as he or she starts walking and provides traction to prevent falls on slippery surfaces.
We were sent the adorable Elizabeth in Spice Infant/Baby Shoes from Rileyroos!
I loved the cute packaging of the shoes. The baby girl world is totally new to me, and I am totally loving it- it's so cute and fun! The packaging had a clear window, so I could see the product through the box. The box also contained information about the shoe size. I went with the 3-6 mo size on the shoes, in hopes that S could wear these through the late summer and into the fall.
The adorable Elizabeth in Spice shoes feature a cute design and little cut-outs!
I think pink baby shoes are cute, but I wanted to go with something practical. Sure, our girl is going to wear her share of pink, but the brown is an easy color to pair with just about any other color of clothing S might be wearing. The shoes do have a stitched pink flower on the front, and little cut-outs for the flower petals.
The shoes are adjustable, and the cut-outs will allow for air flow during the sweltering NC summer months.
The Elizabeth in Spice Baby Shoes by Rileyroos are multi-season (if you ask me). I know they have the cut-outs, but these can also be worn with a thin or even thicker sock during the fall or winter. They'll look adorable with little dresses, leggings, pants, shorts, etc.
Each shoe also has a little (R) and (L) printed inside of the shoe, which is so helpful! It can be hard to tell the difference between the left and the right shoes in baby shoes... especially to my hubby! This will save us the guesswork. It's also great for older children who may be experimenting with their new found independence, and dressing themselves!
I love that even these little shoes are adjustable!
I know that my 3-6 mo old won't be doing any walking when the time comes, but I want her to get used to wearing shoes, so it won't be an issue later on, and so she'll be used to having the support she needs when she is ready to walk. Who knows- maybe she'll be an early walker? Looking back, I sort of wish that I had started B wearing shoes more often when he played in his activity bouncer and walker.
Here's a peek at the heel of the shoe- it's a soft, rounded heel, which won't rub baby's sensitive skin.
The bottom of the Rileyroos.
I love the pink soles of these cute shoes! They still offer that barefoot feel, but they grip, and offer support where it's needed most. I love the extra support in the toes... and we all know how much babies love to push on their toes, once they can pull or push themselves up to a standing position. The extra grip also helps to keep baby safe when they are new to walking. These are baby shoes that moms and dads can feel good about putting on their babies!
Features of the Elizabeth in Spice Shoes from Rileyroos...
This darling t-strap is the perfect companion to any little fashionistas wardrobe. A dainty floral cutout gives a fun stylish flair. Designed to imitate barefoot walking, these shoes have a flexible nubuck or suede sole with rubber padding to protect little feet on big adventures. The sole curls above little toes to provide leverage as little ones make their natural gravitation from sitting to crawling to walking.
