A successful home is like a finely tuned system. It can be changed, upgraded, repaired and cleaned, and there are ways to make it run more smoothly. Some homes aren’t running perfectly, but with a few small tweaks, you can increase the efficiency of your household no-end.
So, without further ado, here are five easy ways to make that home run a lot more smoothly! Cast a critical eye over your household and look for ways to improve. You’ll thank yourself in the long run!
1. Stay on top of the dishes
Whether you have a dishwasher or do them by hand (I wave my hat to you!), make sure those plates don’t pile up. There’s nothing worse than coming home to a sink full of dirty utensils. This can also impact your next meal, as you may not have enough plates to serve food with. This ripple effect increases your workload late at night, when you should be relaxing.
To avoid this, wash your utensils as you use them. If you do it by hand, keep a fresh bowl of hot soapy water ready at all times. If you have a dishwasher, be sure to put your used cutlery and plates in it when you finish eating.
2. Prepare the night before, and make a to-do list
There’s nothing worse than waking up, feeling unorganized. Making a to-do list the night before can help you focus on the day ahead, with little worrying. On your list, prioritize things you need to do in order. For example, if you drive to work, plan to get petrol on the way there. This means you can get home quicker at the end of the day.
Writing a good to-do list is an art form, so practice it! You can even download smartphone apps that can build lists for you. Stick to it seven days a week and it’ll become second nature.
3. Upgrade and fix your current equipment
The reality of home improvement is, it costs money. The good thing about this is, it can save you energy bills and can improve the value of your home when you choose to sell. So, look at all the things you could change, and act upon them.
If your kitchen is looking a bit ragged, install a fitted one! It may help your home run a bit better by making appliances a bit quicker. Investing in an air conditioning repair can improve airflow around the house, reducing lack of sleep due to hot temperatures. If you wake up feeling more refreshed, you’ll be more ready for the day ahead!
4. Share out household tasks equally
Nobody wants to be stuck with all the chores, so ensure they’re shared equally. Give each child an equal amount of work to do, and assign some to yourself. This way, everyone knows what they’re doing and it takes a load off your mind. Consider buying a memo board to write everybody’s jobs down on.
5. Communicate!
Communication is key in all walks of life, and the same is true here. A lack of communication can lead to lack of productivity and procrastination, so make sure you speak to your family. If you’re in a mood, don’t let this get in the way; this bad mood rubs off on other people and ripples throughout the home. Show your family you love them and everyone will be happy!
