When spring arrives, we tend to think about new beginnings and starting afresh, but there’s nothing to stop you from indulging in a summer shakeup if you fancy giving your home a clearout. Spring is traditionally associated with cleaning up and de-cluttering, but if you haven’t got around to sorting out your home, it’s never too late. Summer is a time for vacations, spending time together, and most importantly, having fun, so here are some tips to ensure your home is summer-ready!
Have you got too much stuff?
Have a look around you. Have you got cupboards bursting at the seams or wardrobes or closets stuffed with clothes? Is your attic full of boxes or has the garage become a dumping ground for outdoor jackets, shoes or exercise equipment? Is every inch of shelf space taken? It’s very easy to accumulate stuff, especially if you lead a hectic lifestyle, and there are a lot of people living at home, but there’s a fine line between cozy and cluttered. If you can never find anything you’re looking for or there’s no space to sit down, have friends round or work from home, it’s time to be practical and admit that you’ve got too much stuff.
De-cluttering made easy
If you’re a hoarder and you’re tight for space, now is the time to be more ruthless and dispose of anything you don’t need or particularly want. If you’ve got a spare room full of boxes that haven’t been opened in months or clothes you haven’t worn for years, take an afternoon off and go through each room, creating piles of stuff you don’t want to keep. Using services like Same-Day Rubbish Removal, you can de-clutter and start making use of the newfound space straight away. You don’t need to get rid of everything, but you’ll be amazed at the difference a clearout can make. If you have items that are in good condition, and you don’t want to dispose of them, make piles for selling or taking to the thrift shop. You could organize a yard sale or sell your clothes, CDs, DVDs or old cell phones online.
Staying on the right track
Once your home is clean, spacious, and clutter-free, don’t revert to your old ways and end up in the same boat six months later. Keep on top of tidying, and invest in some storage solutions to make life easier. Use tubs to store toys and keep your papers tidy using a filing cabinet in the office. Use shelves to display ornaments or organize kitchen utensils or laundry products.
Are you tired of being greeted with a mess when you walk through the door? Do you waste too much time trying to find things when you’re rushing to get out of the house every morning? Do you wish you could wave a magic wand and tidy all that clutter away? If your home is crying out for a clearout, it’s time to bite the bullet, roll your sleeves up, and get sorted. Tackle each room, make separate piles of things you want to keep, sell and throw away, and adopt a new, more organized approach going forward.
