Weekends with the Wigglesworths- Preparing for Summer Vacation!

Happy Saturday, friends! I hope you all had a fabulous week. We are still counting down the days until our summer vacation...19 days total until the last day of school, but only 14 of them are actual school days. The excitement is there, but it's sort of bittersweet since my oldest will be done with elementary school! I'm trying not to think about it too much, so instead, I will pour much of my attention into preparing for an awesome summer vacation!

Since we already went on vacation during our Spring Break, much (if not all) of what we do during this summer will be local. We've already started making our "Summer Bucket List" and there are many great, free and inexpensive things we were able to come up with, but I also need to figure in some home activities.

Off to the Library....

Some Great Books From a Recent Library Trip

One of my favorite free activities is visiting the library. Today we'll be getting the girls signed up for the "Libraries Rock Summer Reading Program".  `Even though we can sign up online, we are a bit overdue for a library trip, so we'll be registering in person today. I may or may not end up registering for the adult summer reading program while we are there.
Reading books and watching movies we borrow from the library will be a great home-based activity this summer.

Cleaning and Decluttering

An Older Picture of the Girls in the Playroom

A few years ago, my sister Lindsay helped us reclaim our sun porch. We had been using it as a catch-all for things that didn't necessarily have an assigned space, but we didn't want to part with. Since then, we've been using it as a playroom. Sadly, it's not an all season sun porch, and since we live in Connecticut, the playroom turns into more of a toy museum for a few months. We'll be working on cleaning it up some today and hopefully getting rid of some toys that the girls have outgrown.

After settling the playroom, I'm hoping to get some work done in the basement. This is another area of our home that serves as a catch-all and I'd like to reclaim some space.
The basement has the potential to be a great place to hang out during the summer because it's naturally cooler than the rest of the house. We just got a great deal on an air hockey table and an electronic basketball game. Since both girls loved playing with these things at Matt's parents' house down in Florida, we figured that we would surprise them with their own. Now, we just have to work on making a space to set them up. I'd also like to figure out a way to set up an arts and crafts area down there, but we'll take things one project at a time.

So, our weekend might not be the most fun weekend ever, but I'm sure our future selves will be grateful. Is anybody else working on a home project this weekend? I'd love to hear what you are up to, so be sure to leave a comment!
