All of your favorite turtles are back in a brand new series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nickelodeon! I remember when TMNT was completely new- back in the late 80's/early 90's (showing my age, here, aren't I?). I would sit on the floor in our TV room in our NJ home, fascinated by the turtles, and really tuned into April, good friend to the turtles and reporter (I loved writing- even then, and looked up to her in a way.). Now my son is really into the turtles, and it's been sort of fun to re-live parts of my childhood through him and the pop culture themes he is drawn to.

Just as we love to see movies and TV series featuring the origins of our favorite Marvel and DC Comics heroes, we now get to learn even more about this lean, green crime-fighting team!

My thoughts...

I am monitoring what my kids watch more closely than ever before. I don't let them watch anything without supervision, even streaming content from trusted apps or DVDs. In the past, some of the episodes of past TMNT series have been a bit too scary in my eyes. This new series (in my opinion) is a little less violent than those past. I feel okay about my 8-year-old watching this, as long as I watch with him and his toddler sister isn't in the room. If anything seems scary, we talk about it. As parents, we're making a much bigger effort to talk to our older child about what he sees and hears on TV or in movies.

This series is a lot of fun, and the turtles are certainly lovable. B has some of the new Rise of the TMNT toys that have recently come out from Playmates Toys, which he loves. It's been fun to see him discover this new series and bring out some of the action figures and toys as he watches and enjoys. Plus, the new series has gotten him back into reading some of his older TMNT books, too! We're always happy to see him wanting to read more and more. If you have kiddos around the age of my son or older, I think they'll be just fine with watching this.
