Marriage is not always rainbows and unicorns; as much as I like for my life to be that way, it just doesn't always work that way.
Marriage is teamwork. Lots and lots of teamwork. It's not a one sided playing field here. One day you may be on offense and the next defense. Teamwork makes the dream work. Find the one who will play on your team.
Marriage is taking the good, with the bad. Find the one who will turn your bad days into good.
Marriage is loving the ugly parts. We tend to show our worst sides to the ones we love the most. Find the one who will love you on your worst days.
Marriage is differences of opinion. Find the one who will fight fair, even if you disagree.
Marriage is seeing the best in your partner. Find the one who will build you up and encourage you to be the best version of yourself.
Marriage is an adventure. Find the one willing to travel the path of least resistance with you and go on crazy adventures with you.
On our honeymoon we snowmobiled through Yellowstone National Park! It’s one of the greatest and most beautiful adventures I’ve ever been on. |
Marriage is weathering the storms. We can sometimes find ourselves in rough seas, barely treading water. Find the one willing to weather the storm with you.
Marriage is full of laughter. Find the one who makes you laugh and cry at the same time.
My husband always makes me laugh. |
Marriage is compromise. Find the one who is willing to clean up the kids puke - even if that means you have to get the boogers.
Marriage is a choice. It's a choice to choose each other again and again. Even when you don't like each other and trust, there will be days you don’t like each other. It doesn’t mean you don’t love them.
Marriage is fun. {Not always, but there’s so much fun to be had!} Find the one who brings out the silly side of you.
Marriage is God's abundance of grace+mercy. Find the one who will pray for you.
Marriage is a gift. An incredible gift. Find the one who you consider a gem. A treasure of sorts.
Marriage is love. An overflowing abundance of love.
You’ll find your one and when you do, you’ll know.

You have good advice. I'd say mostly advice for parents is to start helping them understand early on what traits would make a good marriage partner, even though far off in the future. By the time they are in their 20s, to give them a good foundation to make good decisions about marriage.
