Preparing For Travel During a Global Pandemic

Cory and I are getting ready to go on our first flight since before Covid-19, and I'm a bit nervous about it. Now, we are both pretty well versed in air travel, I worked for American Airlines for a few years, and then worked for a private company that contracted with TSA to handle PreCheck.  Cory has been working in the aerospace industry for almost 15 years. So, we are no strangers to traveling, or airports, but things are different now, and we haven't flown since January.

When we first started to plan for our trip, we were going to make the 16+ hours drive to the beach, straight through. We've done it several times in the past, but I'm getting older and sitting in the car for that long doesn't sound appealing. I decided to cash in my airline miles, and that we would fly. I've spent time reading articles of what to expect, and have gathered up suggested supplies that we might need. We both have had PreCheck for years, and now more than ever, I am so glad to have it.

Masks are required on our flight, and we'll be bringing plenty because you never know what can happen. We also made sure to book a straight-through flight in order to cut down on exposure to others in close quarters. TSA is now allowing passengers to bring 12oz of hand sanitizer on board, so we have several small bottles of spray hand sanitizer and plan to spray down our seats and seat backs in front of us. We also have non-bleach wipes that we'll use to wipe things down as needed. I always pack a ziplock baggie for trash and will have extra in case we need to use them for anything else. Food and drinks will be limited to request only, so we plan to buy drinks before hand to bring on our flight, to cut down on cross-contamination.

Like I said, I'm a bit nervous to fly, but I am so excited to see my family and to spend time at the beach. Be on the lookout in the next two weeks or so for a follow up on how things went, and what you should expect if you're flying anytime soon!
