Thank you to Janie's Cakes for sending me lovely treats in exchange for my review! All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
When the image of sitting around the family dining room enters your mind, what is your dessert centerpiece? I grew up with a myriad of deserts at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's; but the most often one was pound cake. Using one of the many family recipes, mom would often make flavored, sour cream, or regular pound cakes glazed just right for eating. The best pound cakes are not too dense, lightly flavored, and moist rather than dry.
As an adult, I often miss my mom's creations because I don't get home for the holidays that much. While I've attempted on various occasions to make my own pound cakes, I find that others can create and bake them way better than I can! There is an art and delicacy to getting pound cakes just right, so I'm thankful for the bakers who navigate the kitchen better than myself.
This year, I was excited to try out Janie's Cakes. Based in Texas, Janie's cakes offers flavorful moist pound cakes and snack sets to suit all the needs of the family during the holiday season. Learning her craft from her great-grandmother, she ventured north to develop her culinary skills. Returning home and feeling the pull to open her own bakery, Janie's Cakes was born!
Janie's Cakes sent me a Plain Jane Vanilla Pound Cake and a Munchie Box.
The Plain Jane is the classic pound cake with vanilla flavoring. This is Janie's Cakes Signature Pound Cake and it does not disappoint! While a simple cake, it packs powerful vanilla flavor! This cake is not glazed or topped in any way; hence the "Plain Jane" name. I love it!
The Munchie Box includes a Vanilla Pound Cake Biscotti Mix, Texas Bourbon Whiskey Toasted Pecans, and Texas Bourbon Whiskey Snack Mix.
Pound Cakes are made with the best ingredients: farm fresh eggs, cane sugar, creamery butter, and no preservatives. Cakes arrive in a beautiful box, shrink wrapped to aid in preservation, and with instructions on best ways to keep it fresh. If you don't eat it immediately, then it's recommended to refrigerate until completion. There are even best methods on freezing too! There are many other flavorings, some with toppings, some with glazes, and some with surprises inside! Gluten free- never fear, cause there are options for you too! Most (but not all) of the flavored pound cakes can be bought in three sizes: a Regular Jane that serves 12, a Baby Jane that serves 6, and a Petite Jane that serves 1-2.
Janie's Cakes offers more than pound cakes. Unique treats are available to suit all styles and taste-buds!
Want something salty? Grab the Texas Whiskey Bourbon Snack Mix. Filled with a mix of Chex, kix, cheez-its, pretzels, and the best seasoning blend I've eaten this snack will fulfill all of your salty desires in between those sweet moments. Make sure to have the water nearby= the seasoning does have a punch and can catch you off-guard at first!
Need something sweet but don't want to invest in a whole pound cake? The Vanilla Pound Cake Biscotti is definitely addictive. I probably shouldn't admit it- but they are almost gone and it's only been two days! Biscotti resembles a hard crispy cookie that is often cut into strips. The vanilla pound cake flavoring is definitely pronounced in the biscotti- making this a flavorful sweet treat!
Another sweet treat is the Texas Bourbon Whiskey Toasted Pecans. The flavor is not overpowering but noticeable, making these pecans a great standalone treat.. or you could make a creation of your own with them!
If you are looking to send treats to loved one's you are unable to visit this year.. or perhaps need your own treat because you can't possibly bake one more thing, Janie's Cakes ship nationwide! Shipping on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays all shipments arrive within two days! I highly recommend purchasing a Janie's pound cake.. you will not be disappointed!
