As a mom of three children, I have had my fair share of coming up with cool gifts for all sorts of occasions. Giving gifts is one of my love languages. It's how I show love and appreciation to and for others, and it gives me great joy to see the excitement on a gift recipient's face when they open their special gifts. My own kids are all five years apart in age, so finding different gifts for birthdays and other holidays can be quite a challenge. One of my favorite places to check out truly brilliant children's presents is Wicked Uncle. Whether you're looking for a challenge or something that's just for fun, there's a unique game waiting for you at Wicked Uncle.
Finding gifts for kids when they're very young is fairly easy. Young children tend to enjoy toys, books, or special outfits for creative dress-up and playtime. When kids grow older, however, it's a whole different ballgame, especially when they enter the 'tween' years, on the verge of becoming teenagers. I've found this age challenging for gift-giving. My own son will soon turn twelve, and I'm lucky that he still enjoys toys in some fashion. This gives me a few more gift options for the holidays. I also love focusing on gifts that appeal to his interests. Since I've had a few seasons of gift-buying for a tween boy, I thought I'd share some gift ideas that have been well-received by my child and will hopefully be well-received by yours, as well!

Building Sets
If there was ever a timeless gift for 10-12 year old boys, it has to be buildable sets. I still loved building when I was a preteen. Building sets are perfect because they offer endless possibilities for creative building. It's a wonderful STEAM gift, encouraging the child to build by following directions to achieve a pre-determined build, but it can also be built to suit the taste and creativity of the child. It's fun to gift these sets and watch your child build with them again and again. My son is a big fan of marble run sets and cube sets. They're really cool and can be played in so many different ways.
Brain Games
One of the types of gifts I love to give any child is one that stimulates their mind. There are so many amazing, creative games and puzzles for kids today. I wish these had been around when I was younger! One of the things I love about Wicked Uncle is that they carry a lot of games that are twists on classics- like Laser Chess, Dance Charades, Mad Libs, and more! There are tons of games that your child can play with just two players, or with a group. It's an awesome way to encourage kids to get off of their screens and use their noggins to problem-solve.
Active Games
I love games that get kids up and moving. How many times have you heard a tired parent say to their child, 'You need to go outside and run around.' This is probably because the child has a lot of pent-up energy, or has been sitting around, completely inactive for far too long. Games like Wizards and Werewolves Glow in the Dark Tag aren't just active, they're completely cool! Why would a kid want to sit indoors on a screen when they could be outside in a safe space to play, in the dark, playing glow-in-the-dark tag!? I know where I'd rather be! Any game that encourages a child to be moving- whether it be a dancing game, game with a ball or otherwise, is a great gift idea!
Science Gifts
Kids often become interested in science when they're around this age. My own son loves science experiments and has asked for everything from science kits to a microscope. I received a microscope as a gift when I was a preteen, and I absolutely loved it! Wicked Uncle has some really neat experiment kits/sets, microscopes, telescopes, and more!
With many awesome gift options from Wicked Uncle, you're bound to find the perfect gift for the pre-teen (or tween) boy in your life. Be sure to check these out, and browse all of their other gifts, too!
