A couple months back, a good friend of mine graciously gave me sourdough starter.
Like many of you reading this, I felt unprepared but also excited! I've heard about some amazing recipes you can create using sourdough starter. I've successfully kept my starter alive for a little while now and definitely have the hang of it. It's not too complicated and now I wonder why it ever scared me in the past.
Sometimes I end up with too much starter because I do not bake nearly enough. Whenever this happens, instead of throwing excess away or trying to find someone to take it, my friend shared with me that you can just cook it!
What a simple idea. Per my friend's instructions:
Heat oil in a cast iron and put the cast iron in a 425 degree oven.
Pour desired amount of starter into the pan and put back in the oven!
Once the bottom is crispy, you can flip it and return it to the oven for a few minutes. I created this hodge podge wrap for my hubby the other day with the starter flat bread. It's almost crispy like a thick cracker but tastes more like a pizza crust. He loved it!
I'm relatively new to the sourdough starter world but I'm excited to try my hand at many fun recipes down the road. What do you think of keeping starter alive?
Blessings,
