It seems so long ago that I was 22... roughly 20 years ago. Today, my son is 22 and I can't say where the time went. He's accomplished so much more than I did at his age. He's traveled the world and will continue to through his military career. I couldn't be more proud of him.
The last year has been a struggle with us. We used to be so close and as he grows up he doesn't need me as much as he did and I've struggled with that. We haven't talked in 6 months because of a falling out and it has been the hardest 6 months of my life. It's funny how you don't remember your life before kids but it's so much harder when you have to learn who you are after they grow up.
To my son, no matter where you are in life I will love you and support you. I will always be a call away. I pray for your safety and well-being. I am not angry with you and despite our differences of opinion there is nothing you could do to make me love you less. Here's to a new year and a prayer for the places you'll go... physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
