Thanks to City Loo for sending over the Essentials Kit in exchange for this review. All thoughts are my own. |
Thunderstorms, long days at the beach/ pool, road trips, and doggy care are some ways that our pups get out of sorts during summer. We might not make it home fast enough for the potty break, they might have an accident when the thunder strikes and hits a nearby tree (this actually happened to my new guy within the first couple of days of rescuing him, but no accidents), or fireworks might scare the furry creatures late at night.
No matter what the case may be for your summer potty challenges, City Loo has something for you. Even for adult senior dogs who just may need some help when they can't hold their bladders as long as they used too.
City Loo has amazing products to help keep your home safe from accidents and help keep your pup free from shame if potty accidents occur indoors. I'm a lucky person because my 11- year old rescue was actually puppy pad trained. So far, in the month I've had him, he's only had to use it once, and I think it was nerves related. It was the day after I got him and I had to go to church/ work. That particular Sunday was longer than I'd like it to have been for my first full day of having him, but he used the provided puppy pads and no mess in the apartment! But, I've also been home fairly regularly and have been able to take him out on a schedule. Come the fall, that might not happen as much.

Also, don't forget the cats, as it can hold and contain litter box smells too!
The City Loo bottom is made to accommodate your cat's litter box or an odor absorbing tray with appropriate coverings. I did not receive the City Loo, so I can't comment on its design, function, and ease; but it looks like a great way to contain smells and give your pet a safe place to go potty if needed. It is meant for pets under 20 lbs and no more than 16" tall at the shoulders.
City Loo started because living in the city, the creator knew it sometime's wasn't safe or convenient to walk her pets, especially living in taller high rises where it takes longer to get outside. For me, a first floor apartment generally means we can get out quick enough to prevent accidents, but as I said in the intro paragraph, my guy was puppy pad trained.
As we are still figuring out schedules and I do sometimes get stuck with long days at work, City Loo did send over their essentials kit. It includes an odor absorbing tray, 4 high-quality artificial potty grass, and 150 potty pads. Chachi hasn't used the tray yet, although he is certainly aware of its existence, but it's there just in case it's needed when I'm gone, and he gets anxious.
The tray size: 26” by 17” by 1”. It is designed with SilverSeal protection to eliminate 99.9% of odor-causing bacteria on the product's surface within 24 hours. It's designed to be used with fake potty grass and potty pads. The recommendation is to place the puppy pad as a liner on the tray, then follow by the potty grass. The tray has handles on it that make cleaning or moving the tray a snap. The tray can be used with or without the City Loo function, indoors or outdoors, so it's the perfect accessory to any apartment with minimal space!
The potty grass is cut to fit within the tray. While made with a polypropylene and polyethylene
material, the rubber backing helps prevent slipping and sliding. The materials also make it easy to clean. Use soap + warm water or a hose and for extra special cleaning, add an enzyme cleaner to the mix. 4 grass pads come with each order, so when you need to change out for cleaning, there is one available!
City Loo's recommendation is to change potty pads daily and to clean the grass once a week. I'm guessing this depends on how often your pet uses the grass & pads too. The potty pads give an extra absorbency under the grass. Of course, if you don't want to mess with the tray and the City Loo system, the potty pads are perfectly able to handle your pups potty breaks on their own.
They are designed to fit into the tray, but they do have waterproof layers that prevent buildup on the floor as well. I don't have carpets in my home as I have laminate flooring, but I would still want the tray used, if possible, to prevent any seepage into the floor boards, as I know it's a pain to get rid of those smells and clean properly!
So, as I've mentioned, Chachi hasn't used this system yet, but he knows it's there. He's gone over and sniffed at it a few times. I don't know how he feels about the fake grass as he's trained on puppy pads for indoor use. Outdoors, he has a tendency to head towards our mulch type areas versus the grass, unless he has too, so time will only tell what he prefers. For now, I have a safe system in place for him in case I get caught, or in case he gets anxious when I'm out of the house. We are also still figuring out his meals, likes & dislikes, and what upsets his stomach, so it's helpful to have that around as well.
I think this Essentials Kit is also amazing to have on hand during your travel season. If your pup goes with you (or even if your pup stays at home), they will be out of routine. Perhaps your doggy sitter won't be available at the time he/ she normally expects to go out, or perhaps he/she gets excited with all the new smells in your hotel or rental home. No matter the case, never fear, because if your dog is trained with the City Loo system, there's a safe way to prevent accidents and keep from paying those pesky damage fees.
To be perfectly honest, City Loo and an extra puppy pad sit out around my home 24/7, just in case Chachi decides he needs to potty for any reason. I would rather him use the City Loo Essentials system whenever he needs it, then to only have it available at certain times. I also wouldn't want there to be any shame in him using it either.. that is why we have it! We know some dogs get shameful when we find their accidents, but that's what they are- accidents!
I like the fact that I have this system for hurricane season too. Living in coastal NC means tropical storms, thunderstorms, and yes, even hurricanes. It's a safe way for Chachi to go potty when winds are blowing and lightning strikes. The poor guy doesn't care about thunderstorms or the rain, but many of our creatures do. Training them to use City Loo will alleviate anxiety in all- pets and humans!
Having the City Loo essentials kit helps keep our animals from feeling shame and helps keep our homes free of messes. It can be used inside or outside too- in case you have a high rise patio, or just don't want to take your dog out at 3 in the morning.
Whatever the case may be, the City Loo system and accessories will prevent damage, will prevent anxiety, and will help calm fears when you get stuck and can't get home to walk your dog right away! For cat owners, it's a perfect way to secure the litter box smells too!
