Ahh, the holidays. Time for lots of candies, cookies, and chefs in the making! I'm The Chef Too! has some great cooking kits for your chefs and bakers in the making. They will especially love the Erupting Volcano Cakes Kit. I mean, who doesn't love exploding stuff?

Okay, maybe those of us that love our kitchens and dining rooms. But seriously, this cake kit will be so much fun for your kids to make over the holidays! Not only do they get to learn how to bake, they also learn a bit about science (after all, part of baking IS science) and STEM. 

STEM has become extremely popular in the past couple of years, especially with females, and its important to start learning early as many career paths are headed in that direction. For those of you who aren't sure what STEM is, it means Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. All of these things are prevalent in cooking and baking!

Even though it's the holiday break, learning can still be fun too! The Erupting Volcanic Cake kit helps kids learn about the planet. Not only does your child get to enhance their baking skills, other activities pertaining to the science piece of the box are available. For this particular box, there is an activity related to Volcanology and Geology, helping children learn about the earth, rocks, and the various levels under the ground. 

As far as the kit, it includes: cake mix, baking soda, melting chocolate, fondant, chocolate cookies, mini bundt molds, and plastic dinosaurs. Also included is baking soda, red & orange food coloring, 

Additional needed items are: egg, water, cooking spray, vinegar, and corn syrup (optional). 

A card shows and explains the steps necessary to make the cake. It also explains that two volcanoes are being made: one to eat (yay!) and one to explode  (double yay!!). Cakes are baked in a traditional oven at 350 for about 15 minutes. 

Very specific instructions are included as to how to assemble the volcanoes as well. After assembling, decorating, and fondant covering your volcano cake, it's time to erupt! Use baking soda as the main ingredient for the eruption. Food Coloring helps the eruption stand out and look amazing too, just like are volcano would spew fire and ash! 

Since this kit is a gift, it hasn't been tested yet. It looks like it could be very explosive, in some big ways! While the cakes are small enough for any age to handle, there is always a risk of mess involved when creating volcano cakes. I think that having the cake mix and ingredients all available is a plus- as that means hardly any additions are needed, and less likely to mess the creations up! 

This is the perfect gift for kids who love to be creative and love being in the kitchen! I am curious of the volcano will be explosive eruptive or a manageable clean up level (cue memories of Zack Morris's Home EC Saved by the Bell episode here). 

Just a note, the cake mix isn't free of allergies, so be aware if your children have any dietary restrictions at all.  Also remember to not leave kids unsupervised in the kitchen! Even if they know how to utilize the oven, stove, etc, they should always have you around in case an emergency happens! 

I'm the Chef too kits are perfect gifts for the holiday season. Keep the boredom at bay, help your child learn something new, and have fun doing it! Plus, they can eat one of the creations when they are finished... or they can explode both!
