Thanks to FSR Ventures & the author, Jason Kraus, for sending over PT Runs Free in exchange for a review. All thoughts are my own! |
If you have followed Mommy's Block Party for a couple of months, then you know I adopted a dog this past summer. I have been without a 4 legged creature for over ten years, so this has been an adjustment! Despite needing surgery over the summer, eleven-year-old senior Chachi is doing very well. In fact, he's probably too spoiled already! Chachi was a rescue after his owner passed. He seems to be a very sweet and loving dog, so I think he was spoiled before he came into my life and didn't face life in a shelter that many dogs face.
I've started to enjoy the holiday season with him too. He's met Santa, he is loving the Christmas decorations, and he anxiously waits for treats, of course! I have even started to think about what he will find under his tree on Christmas morning. Growing up, we had stockings for our dogs too. Usually some treats and a toy, but they are a part of the family as well.
If rescue dogs are near and dear to your heart, then you must check out PT Runs Free, written by Jason Kraus and Illustrated by Connor DeHaan.. This book is for children, adults, and all dog lovers! PT Runs Free is about a dog that faced a neglectful family, found his way into a shelter, and lost one of his legs in the process. He's a dog that faced adversity and didn't give up.
The best part about this book is that all proceeds are going to support victims of Hurricane Ian and those displaced in southwest Florida. Living in a coastal community practically all my life, I understand how impactful hurricanes are, and how devastating they can be to the entire community-rescues included. Many people are faced with the decision to leave their pets behind when rising floodwaters come, when emergency shelters don't allow pets, and when they lose their own homes and have to find someone to stay with.
PT Runs Free not only is about how the dogs overcome adversity, but how we help out our four legged family members and friends as well. The book is based on the story of a real dog, who was found on the side of the road in Miami and did have to overcome ACL surgery.
Now PT shares his story with children in the author's community and helps them to learn about compassion and empathy.
It's an incredibly easy read with accompanying photos. I actually love the rhyming, the plot line, and even the photos!
My favorite part is when PT realizes he is loved and gets to help show love to kids along with teaching them.
Definitely add PT Runs Free to your holiday gift list this season. Not only will you have an amazing book in your collection, you will be helping to support animals in need of loving caring homes, those in need of surgery and care, and those who long to be rescued from bad situations.
