Beat the Winter Blues: Turning Cabin Fever into a Staycation

Winter blues have been extremely hard for me to overcome in the last few years. The daily tasks, my job, and even my personal interests seem of mundane.  I lack motivation to do anything.  I leave for work and it's dark outside and when I come home it's dark outside. Both January and February have also been very downcast with little sun in the Northeast, which I'm sure contributed to me being down. I could feel myself not being myself. I was more anxious and with that anxious feeling came a perpetual bad mood.  So I decided to take a vacation week off of work.

Staycation over Vacation

I'm not big on traveling. With two pets, I don't like leaving them behind and I feel you need a vacation just from planning and going through with a traveling vacation.  I've had the experience that I come home more tired, stressed about how my very temperamental animals are while I am gone, and of course now I have to "clean" my house because people are visiting to house sit or staying at the house while we are gone.  That right there is why I prefer a staycation.

I stayed home for a week straight and I chose the things I wanted to do. I read a lot, I explored some television shows, spent time with friends and family, but ultimately I spent the week doing what I wanted versus what I feel normally is required of me. Why don't I do this more?  I think I just might.

How are you fighting the winter blues?
