Spring is just around the corner and today is National Plant a Flower Day! Here are three fun activities to do with your kiddos today to celebrate!

Spring Break is here for our school this week and this teacher could not be more thankful. The flip side to being out of school all week is that my little people are always itching for something to do. If you’re like me, trying to keep the kids entertained on Spring Break whether this week or soon coming, these Plant a Flower Day activities are great to get your little ones excited for the upcoming arrival of Spring.

1. Plant a flower - or better yet - plant a whole garden!

What else do you do on National Plant a Flower Day? Plant a flower of course! When we were planting our vegetable garden this past summer, my two were so eager to help. It was so fun to see them excited to help out and take ownership of the seeds they helped sow. Today is a great day to get those little hands dirty and help mom beautify the yard! Not sure what to include in your garden? Check your zone for the best plants to plant this time of year and be sure to think ahead for cold temperatures and frost!

2. Make an edible garden.

One of  kiddos’ favorite treats is dirt in a cup. They love to put the cups together and pretend they are eating actual dirt. Dirt cups are composed of layers of Jello, Oreos, and gummy worms. I found a great photo and recipe to share with you all at here. These are so fun and the kids love them! Just look at all of the colors intertwined in a single cup! 

3. Create flower art

After all of the time spent outside, it is great to wind down with a quieter activity. Have your kids draw beautiful flowers, color a flower coloring page or even press flowers collected outside. Pinterest has lots of great ideas if you’re falling short in coming up with ideas for flower art for your littles.
