Track Fido this Holiday Season with Pawfit 3 + Giveaway

Thanks to Pawfit for providing the tracker in exchange for a review. All thoughts are my own.

"Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds." While Herodotus spoke this about the postal couriers during the Greek Persian War of the 500's, I feel like I live this every day with my senior dog. He isn't delivering mail, but he certainly does go on walks every day, all the time, regardless of the weather. In fact, we just came in after a 40-min jaunt and the rain didn't even phase him!

While I don't fear that much that he will break lose and wander (mostly because he knows home is where the treats & food are), we have had some "close calls" regarding traffic, other dogs, and walkers. When I heard about Pawfit's Tracker option, not only did I want it in case he does wander, but I also wanted to keep up with his health.

The Pawfit Tracker 3 is the perfect option to keep your pet safe and healthy this holiday season! A small box that attaches to most collars and harnesses, this device monitors your dog's steps, walking distances, rest hours, active hours, calories, and location.

Why is this important?

Well, the tracking part should be obvious, especially for breeds who love to run out the door chasing after the smell in the air. The health part is a great benefit too! For my senior dog, this means I can track the number of steps he takes, and I can respond to vets accordingly when they ask about our activity, especially in relation to illness or weight.

I also like tracking the distance and trajectory of our walks, so I can plan locations accordingly. Or maybe if I realized I've lost a glove, I can wander back the way the tracker shows we came instead of my poor memory (a couple times this happened last year).

The tracker does require a subscription to gain the benefits, using the Pawfit App downloaded on your phone.

Tracker Features
  • Voice Activation
    • The voice feature allows your voice to be heard by your dog while they are walking/ running away. If they are trained to voice commands, this can be a useful tool to call them indoors or towards you if they are off leash in any type of setting. I could see this being used in big backyards where you don't want to wander over creation to find them. To be perfectly honest, Chachi doesn't like this feature at all. It confuses him and scares him because it's so close and sudden! The couple of times I tested this, he actually started to walk home, so I do think it works (he knows the words "go home" from our nightly walks when I say it's time to go home).
  • Light
    • The light feature brightens up your dog's tracker/ collar so that you can find them in the dark. This is useful if allow your dog to have longer leash leads, off leash, and they like to wander into bushes after smells, food college kids toss, or creatures. (mostly it's the first two for us).
  • Alarm
    • A really sharp beeping sound emits when this feature is activated. It is a useful tool for people helping to seek out running wandering dogs, or maybe even if a pet has gotten hurt. It is certainly loud enough to hear within a reasonable range, especially if it's a quiet neighborhood.
  • Find
    • Using the find feature on the app, your dog's location will become visible on the app's GPS map. I also recommend setting up a "safe" zone for your pet as well, so that you know when they leave the area, making it easier to track them.

Another feature of the tracker I love is the voice Press for ID to share your pet's name, your name, and your phone number. There's a little button that says "Press for ID" on it, so if a stranger found your dog and looked at the tracker, they could help you get your pet back home. Of course, this only works if people take the time to see the tracker and press the ID, so I still recommend other forms like tags & microchips.

In addition to what's described above, the  Pawfit 3 Tracker is also a fully waterproof device, up to 3 meters. Battery life depends on usage, and the device monitors activity to know how often to send info to the app, such as steps and GPS location. For us, with usage for all walks, it lasts about 5 days of battery power, which I find pretty good!

The app also allows account settings for up to 10 family members/ friends, so if you are out of town, your family can track your pup too, along with monitoring their own or others in the household. And finally, the app alerts the owner to low and high temperature alerts, which is powerful and needed in the south for harsh summer climate and the north for harsh winter climates.

Overall, this is a great tracker to gift any dog lover this holiday season. Track your pet's health, track your own health (it helps you know how much you walked yourself), and keep your pet safe with the Pawfit 3 Tracker. Subscriptions aren't that bad for the piece of mind of knowing your pet is safe this holiday season. Especially if your area is prone to fireworks over New Years, I would highly consider investing in this tracker!
