Thanks Wiley Wallaby's for sending these candies out in exchange for a review. All thoughts are my own. |
In the late 1700s, the British figured out how to take a licorice root (an ancient herb used for health purposes) and sugar to create a semi-edible cough syrup. From there, the concoction took off and eventually became the twisted strips that we know and either love or hate.
Growing up, red vines and Twizzlers were all the rage, but I never really liked the taste of either. I gladly gave up my Twizzlers in the Halloween candy, passed it on to others when received during Christmas parades, and just generally didn't like the rubbery taste and texture.
Yet, my sister, on the other hand, loved the flavor and textures. She and I have always been different with candies-she loved now and later, starbursts chews, etc. I loved peppermints, orange savers, and chocolate.
At any rate, when I came across Wiley Wallaby's licorice, I knew this would make the perfect gift for her family this holiday season! Her kids have taken on her licorice passions, as well as her husband, so I knew that the various treats would be loved and eaten.
