Friends, whether you are ready, Christmas is descending quickly upon us! As someone who works hard to make sure that your Christmas Eve services are wonderful for the entire family, I often ignore any traditions and activities until the evening is over.
The day is spent running around making sure our services are set up, bulletins are out, lights are on, candles are lit.
Once it's finally over, I have a few late night Christmas Eve traditions of my own. I don't usually get to see family as they live out of state, so it's small habits I've adopted to enjoy some of my Christmas Eve.
1) After our last service is over (this year, we do not have our 11 PM Candlelight service, just 8PM, so my night will end slightly earlier than normal), I drive through a certain neighborhood that loves to set up luminaries. By the time I get through, most are starting to go out, but it's still so pretty and silent.
2) I then make my way back across town to the Jeff Gordon Chevrolet Dealership for their light show. They have a timed light show with a radio station and it's always amazing! I'm usually the only car there and can chill out and decompress after a very busy night.
3) I wander through my neighborhood looking at the lights and blow ups before heading home. Now that I have a dog, I must get him out for a walk (after changing out of church clothes).
4) I grab a snack (because I'm usually STARVING since I don't get to eat a proper dinner), and settle down to watch one of my favorite Christmas movies. Sometimes it's the classic A Christmas Story while other times it's I'll be Home for Christmas with JTT's smiling face.
5) I usually end up falling asleep to one of those movies, but sometimes I'm wired and am awake for all of it! The next morning, I get up, walk the dog, and make by way over to a friends house for an insane brunch with like, 30 people!
What are your Christmas Eve Traditions?
