Thanks to Evangers & Against the Grain for sending out these products in exchange for a review. All thoughts are my own. |
Every pet needs a holiday treat, but still needs to stay healthy. My dog loves his treats like any good furry creature, but sometimes his tummy doesn't. When I look for treats, I look for quality ingredients without a lot of fillers that might make his digestive system out of whack.
Evanger's Jerky
Evanger’s Dog & Cat Food Company, founded in 1935, is one of the oldest family-owned pet food manufacturers in the U.S. Known for its commitment to high-quality, natural pet foods, Evanger’s uses human-grade ingredients without artificial preservatives, additives, or by-products. They offer a wide range of products including canned and dry foods, focusing on holistic nutrition for cats and dogs.
We were sent Venison and Chicken to test out, and I can firmly say that my 4 legged family member loses his manners when I break these items out.
They come in small little squares and are about 6 calories per square, so they are the perfect training treat, potty break treat, or just a supplement for a begging dog (especially when they can't eat what the humans might currently being munching on).
These products are grain free, oven baked, and are full of meat, some wild game! The jerky also contains veggies and fruits for a full, rounded diet. The jerky is semi-moist and soft, which makes it pliable and easy to tear.
Against the Grain Hi- Bio Beef Superfood
Against the Grain's Hi- Bio Beef Superfood is short for high biological, high nutrient food that contains nine amino acids perfect for every dog's health. Now, there is a ton of research, opinion, and nutrition information about grain-free diets, so speak with your vet if you are highly concerned about your pet's health.
This particular food offers air dried beef on low heat, perfect for those dogs that hate kibble but need something more filling than pate. It has a longer shelf life than raw diets and is also easier to digest than raw diets
So, with any pet food, you are supposed to change it out slowly to see how your pet reacts. In particular, because this food is made with a high quantity of meat and organ products, changing a dog's diet can mean an upset stomach for a few days. Transition between 5–7 days, moving slowly, following the bag's instructions, can help prevent any major issues.
Chachi is really particular about his food, so I always introduce it slowly. At first, he gobbled it right up as he does a treat. Now that it's been about two weeks, he goes back to his normal ways. He doesn't like kibble and isn't really eating this now, except for a few pieces at night.
It doesn't mean that it isn't a great food, especially for those pet-owners who want their dogs to eat high quality protein meals and don't want the hassle of dealing with raw food diets.
If your dog isn't particularly picky, then this is the perfect food for them to dive into this holiday season! It contains 96% meats, superfoods, and organs that provide great nutrients and vitamins for our pets to brave the Christmas season. It's a great treat, topper, or can be used as your pet's entire meal. Chachi is still enjoying these as treats on his terms, but he much prefers the jerky right now.
Order in time for Christmas!
